Pre NCT Check
National Car Testing (NCT) is a compulsory roadworthiness test for all vehicles on Irish roads. The aim of the NCT is to improve road safety while at the same time protecting our environment by reducing harmful emissions from vehicles. A properly maintained car will be more fuel efficient, reliable and less likely to break down.
The test determines the roadworthiness of a vehicle and identifies any defects such as malfunctioning brakes, worn tyres and defective headlights.
Vehicles more than 10 years old are required by law to get tested annually and vehicles that are under 10 years old need to be tested every 2 years. Approximately half of vehicles fail the test first time around.
In the case of a failure, the vehicle must pass a re-test before the NCT Certificate is issued.
